About Batam Island:

Batam Island is the country’s leading free trade zone in Riau Island Province. Over these last few years, many world’s maritime businesses have been relocating themselves into Batam Island. At present, there are more than 150 mayor maritime companies operating in the region. About 71 of them operate on Batam Island. Many such as PT. McDermott, PT. Drydocks World, and PT. Nippon Steel Batam Offshore Service have even been operating on the island for years. The other major companies like Sembawang Shipyard and Saipem International are based in Karimun Island. Keppel Corporation Ltd is based in the provincial capital island of Bintan.
